Classes

Classes at Central Texas Youth Ballet are kept small to ensure your child receives the teaching instruction and attention they deserve.

Central Texas Youth Ballet bases the division of students into levels solely on ability -- not age. The School Director places students in the level where they will benefit the most. Levels are taught according to the ability of the students in the level as opposed to a certain syllabus. We allow class observations and schedule them once a month

Registered applicants ranging in ages three to five are generally placed in the Preschool Division without further evaluation. Registered applicants ages six or older with little or no formal dance training documented on the registration form are generally placed in the Primary Division in Level 1A. New students with extensive ballet training are invited to take a placement class.

PRESCHOOL DIVISION

Central Texas Youth Ballet’s Preschool Division promotes early childhood development as it exposes young children to dance and classical music while teaching coordination and introducing them to ballet vocabulary. Students are also taught classroom etiquette/discipline and placed in an environment to help improve concentration, listening skills, encourages creativity and group interaction. Students ages three to six are eligible to participate in our Preschool program; classes include: Creative Movement I, Creative Movement II, and Pre-Ballet. Classes are held at our studio in Dripping Springs, Texas.

PRIMARY DIVISION

The Primary Program places strong emphasis on developing basic ballet technique. Students are expected to gain muscular strength, develop stamina and control as they learn ballet technique appropriate for their level. As standard procedure, students of all ages learn the basic ballet positions, the progression of a standard ballet barre and French vocabulary that defines all of the steps in classical ballet. These students also move into beginning centre work, away from the support of the ballet barre. Advancement is based on ability, not age. In this way, the student begins to develop the layers of knowledge that form the foundation of ballet technique. Most students begin in Level 1A. Students with prior ballet training will be asked to take a placement class so faculty can determine the appropriate level for placement. Classes are held at our studio in Dripping Springs, Texas.

COMMUNITY DIVISION

The Community Division at Central Texas Youth Ballet allows recreational students to take class on a drop-in basis. Classes include: Adult Ballet, Adult Tap (Beg.), Teen Ballet/Stretch and Teen Drill Team Technique/Hip-Hop. Students must be at least 14 years old to participate in the Community Division. Classes are held at our studio in Dripping Springs, Texas.
